As part of the implementation of innovative methods for teaching literary subjects, our school participated in a program organized by Education Quality Supervisor at Piraeus Secondary Education Directorate, Dr Chrysanti Koumparou. The program required two philologists from different schools to collaborate on teaching the same literature work, applying innovative teaching methods, with a focus on "co-teaching," to both schools.
Thus, on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, during the 1st and 2nd teaching hours, a "co-teaching" session took place with C3 class students, focusing on the subject of Literature. The session explored experiential discovery learning with a text-centered approach, specifically teaching Konstantinos Karyotakis’ short story “A Practical Death.” Ralleio philologist Dr Maria Panagiotopoulou and Zanneio Experimental Lyceum philologist Ms Eleni Patsiatzi, used collaborative methodology to incorporate multimedia, creative writing and theater techniques. They used the text to address themes of refugee migration and the violation of human rights.
The session was observed by Education Quality Supervisor Dr Chrysanti Koumparou, as well as philologists from our school and other Piraeus schools. After the model lesson, constructive discussion among observing teachers took place on the significant benefits of introducing innovative teaching methods.
We hope that such initiatives, which enhance the educational process, will be repeated.
