On Monday, February 17th, 2025, a two-hour First Aid seminar was organized under the initiative of Ralleio Director, Mr. N. Zarkadoulas, with speaker Mr. Dionysios Vallianatos, former professor of Social Medicine, Sociologist, and author. The seminar was organized following a recommendation from the Director of Secondary Education in Piraeus, Mr. Dionysios Anastasopoulos.
The seminar, which took place in the school’s auditorium, was attended by Ralleio students and educators, as well as by a large group of students from the 3rd Lyceum of Korydallos, accompanied by their supervising educators.
The proceedings began with an opening speech by Ralleio Director Mr. Nikolaos Zarkadoulas. Next, Mr. Dionysios Anastasopoulos, the Director of Secondary Education of Piraeus, took the floor and, in his greeting, emphasized the importance of acquiring basic first aid skills within the school setting.
Following this, the main speaker, distinguished scientist Mr. Dionysios Vallianatos, presented both theoretical and experiential (with active participation from students) first aid procedures for dealing with an unconscious victim, a victim requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a choking victim, a victim without normal breathing, injury management, as well as actions to improve a victim's comfort level and prevent the deterioration of a situation until emergency services arrive.
All attendees, both educators and students, understood that there are many situations where first aid is required in the critical first three minutes of an incident and the importance of the two-minute window in CPR.
Particularly notable for the attendees were the instructions on how to assist individuals at risk from fire in the home and the first aid to be provided to victims with severe burns.
As the speaker informed the audience, this seminar is the first part of a series of three seminars, which will cover all possible scenarios for dealing with sudden life-threatening emergencies for ourselves or our loved ones.
